Whoosh Ball. Human Knot. Synopsis: Youth make a human knot and then try to untangle without letting go of hands.
Two teams of two students compete. On each team, one student acts as the mother bird and the other acts as the baby bird. The team with the most worms in their eggshell at the end of 20 seconds wins. Ties are broken via bird- calling contest. Give them an word and the team has to guess the word they drew.
This would be a good ice breaker activity before a lesson if you tie in themes from the lesson into the drawings. The goal is to get 4 of your team onto the same couch. There must be one less seat than people in the room must have a couch; you can play three on a couch if necessary. Divide into at least two teams and have everyone put their name in hat.
But everyone should keep their names a secret. Now the person to the left of the empty seat in the room calls out a name. The person, who drew that name, now moves to the empty seat, and switches names with the person who called out the name.
Now the person to the left of the new empty seat calls a name. You repeat the process. So you have to try to get to the empty the couch and call the right names to get folks on the couch. This takes some thinking but is fun and competitive in a non-athletic way.
Each person should write down the names of 10 people — either famous people or people everyone in the group knows. Go around and collect them in a basket or hat. You should have quite a few names in the basket. Split into 2 or 3 teams each team having around three or four members. Round One. Pick a team to start — one member of that team gets the basket of names, picks out a name, and has to try and describe that person to the other members of his team. Once they guess correctly, pull out another name from the hat and so on.
The team has one minute to go through as many names as they can. If they get stuck on a name, they can pass and move onto the next name.
Move onto the next team who do the same as above. Round Two. Similar to Round 1 but you can only use one word to describe the person to your group. The group will be aware of all the names in the basket from round 1 so it is easier than it sounds. Score a point per name guessed as above.
Round Three. Add up the scores at the end to see who wins! If you have a group of athletic, competitive students this one is for you. Keep some band aids on hand for this one just in case. This one needs no explanation, but feel free to add twists. Include more than one flag, take turns having the teams play offense and defense, play with three or four teams going against each other, etc.
This is another classic, but is always a hit with youth groups. Make it extra fun by doing it once a year and utilizing interesting competitions: students vs. The key to a good match-up is to put a small number of the strongest against a large number of the weakest.
For example, take a handful senior high boys and place them against 30 middle schoolers. When there are more than 50 students, this game is a lot of fun.
Play duck-duck-goose as you normally would, however when a few people get tagged and they go to the middle, then they begin another game of duck-duck-goose. Everyone is in a straight line, with multiple teams doing this. First team that gets to the last person and has the correct word wins.
Divide students into teams and have one student face off against another student from the other team. Play five seconds of a popular song from iTunes and have them guess. Set a time limit for each person. The winner is the one who made the most people laugh.
They absolutely love this game. The boys get super into it, trying so hard to get that last seat. Equipment needed: Music, you could play some contemporary Christian music like Toby Mac and some chairs. Split The Difference is a must-know, need-to-have game in your activity arsenal! This game requires no preparation, no materials, can be played anywhere, and is sure to lead to lots of great conversation, laughter and fun. Rock Paper Scissors Tournament is a fast-paced game that is easy to pull off, and your youth will want to play this one over and over again!
Assemble students in a line and have one person be Sherlock. Sherlock leaves the room and the students remaining change one thing about their appearance. They can pull their hair up or down, put on a jacket or take one off, put a sticker on, and so forth. Sherlock reenters the room and tries to identify as many changes in the appearance as they can. Equipment needed: none, other than random items they can use to change their appearance which they should be able to find in the youth room.
I hope you found some new games to play with your group. Remember youth love to have fun and they love to be silly, whether they let on or not. This game is similar to regular rugby — only wilder. Use many rugby balls or other balls instead of one rugby ball. Both teams stand on their lines opposite each other. At the signal, each player tries to grab a ball and get it over the opponents line. If successful, he may get another ball. When there are enough balls available, this game can become quite chaotic.
Even better — the playing field is muddy. Here is a version of soccer when a large soccer field is not available. It may be played in a small room. In the middle of the room place 2 bowling pins to make the goal. Each team tries to make goals from their side of the room. The goalies stand back to back. Walking through the goal area is not allowed.
A small circle may be drawn around the goal to mark the area from where goals can not be attempted similar to the free area in front of the goals in handball. At the signal, the ball is tossed player to player in each circle. Which team is ahead after 3 rounds? Variation: the ball must be tossed in a star form or tossed to the 4th player ahead, then the 3rd behind, 4th ahead, 3rd behind, etc. Many know this game from school in sports class. Who can hit a home-run gets 3 points.
Otherwise for each player who makes it to the goal gets 1 point. Depending on the playing field size or size of the group, balls may be thrown so that players may start. Played like blaze ball but runners and catchers must run like animals - hop like frogs or kangaroos, on all fours like dogs, crawl on stomachs like snakes. The distance between bases should be shorter lengths.
A playing field is divided into 3 sections. Each team is in one section. The two teams on the outsides throw balls at the team in the middle section. After 5 minutes the teams rotate. One player is the victim. He stands in the middle of a circle made of the other players. They throw a ball at him.
